Curcumin

Curcumin is a bright yellow-orange plant pigment. It is abundantly represented in the tuberized rhizome (root) of various species of turmeric, in particular in that of Curcuma longa (or Curcuma domestica).

The root of turmeric is particularly used in Ayurvedic medicine, thanks to the curcumin content, it has been used for many centuries for the treatment of a great variety of ailments.

Curcumin and curcuminoids have the following benefits:
  • Antioxidants: protecting cell structures from the damaging effects of oxygen free radicals
  • Anti-inflammatory: reducing the expression of enzymes involved in the development of the inflammatory reaction
  • Antitumor: on the one hand by inhibiting the process of neoangiogenesis and on the other by inducing the apoptotic process.

TREATMENT

For these reasons, curcumin and curcuminoids have been used for many years in:

  • Treatment of inflammatory diseases, including chronic ones
  • Prevention of aging and oxidative diseases such as cataracts
  • Management of arthritic and arthritic pathology
  • Prevention of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s
  • Detoxification from toxic substances
  • Hepato-protection

BIOAVAILABILITY FACTS

Curcumin is confirmed to manifest very poor bioavailability, leading to low or even undetectable concentrations in blood and tissues. This ingredient’s chemical instability, fast metabolism, rapid elimination from the system and non-bioavailable, even high-toxic nature, are important challenges in figuring out how to efficiently use it.

Metasansa’s Micelle Curcumin is 264 times more potent than regular Curcumin as sold in the market and has close to 100% bioavailability. It has high absorption and cellular uptake and can safely be excreted when used by the body. We make this happen by selecting the Curcuma longa L. with the highest concentration of curcuminoids at 30%. This is one of the highest concentrations available and significantly above the range of 2% to 3% found in most varieties. Pure. Natural. Efficient.

Vitamin D3

Vitamins are substances that the body needs to grow, develop and ensure that thousands of metabolic reactions take place.

Vitamin D is involved and necessary for the proper functioning of nerves, muscles and the immune system. In particular helps the body to absorb calcium, which is one of the main constituents of bones; a lack of vitamin D can therefore cause bone diseases, such as osteoporosis or rickets.

Vitamin D is involved in important protective mechanisms against chronic extra-skeletal diseases such as:

  • various types of cancer (thought to be breast, prostate and colon, while high values have been linked to higher rates of pancreatic cancer)
  • diabetes
  • cardiovascular pathologies
  • autoimmune diseases

ACCUMULATION & DEFICIENCY

Vitamin D can be accumulated mainly in three ways:

  • through the skin, with adequate exposure to the sun
  • through the consumption of foods that contain it (diet)
  • with the use of supplements

It is also involved in numerous mechanisms of the immune system, so much so that the hypotheses regarding a possible protective mechanism against different types of cancer, autoimmune diseases and diabetes is growing stronger.

Those at greatest risk of deficiency are:

  • breast-fed infants, as breast milk is usually low in vitamin D
  • the elderly, in which the skin is no longer able to synthesize it effectively and often follow a diet that is insufficient from a nutritional point of view
  • subjects with dark skin, which has a lower ability to synthesize the vitamin
  • people with certain conditions that prevent proper absorption from the diet, such as celiac disease, liver disease, cystic fibrosis and Crohn’s disease
  • obese subjects, in whom excess body fat is thought to retain vitamin D, preventing it from passing into the blood
  • people who have undergone gastric bypass surgery
  • alcoholics, because chronic alcoholism decreases the reserves of vitamin D in the liver
